Committees

The Professional Rights and Responsibilities Committee handles the broad areas of teacher welfare, attendance, and professional rights.  They develop a program of orientation to the Code of Ethics for all members of the organization, and advise the Board of Directors in situations of censure, suspension, or expulsion of members.
The Committee on Teacher Education and Professional Standards (TEPS) explores and develops action programs to raise and maintain standards for certification, employment, and assignment.  This committee also works to improve opportunities for continuing and in-service professional education, as well as to create and to maintain a rapport between the organization and neighboring or closely related institutions of higher education.
The Professional Advancement Committee explores and prepares action programs as necessary in all areas of teacher welfare, with particular responsibility for salaries, leave, fringe benefits, insurance, credit, and investment facilities.
The Professional Relations Committee maintains and facilities communication between our Association and the Board of Education.  In addition, this committee is charged with organizing and conducting programs for the local, state, and national membership enrollment among members and nonmembers.  It is also the responsibility of this committee to conduct programs for the orientation of the new teachers to the community, the school system, and the organization, and to organize such social activities as may serve the needs of members and promote fellowship within the organization.
The Public Relations Committee strives to develop public understanding of the purposes and programs of the organization and the values and importance of education, through available channels of communication such as newspapers, magazines, and other media.  It also promotes positive means of communication within the organization and among its members.
The Grievance Committee explores and prepares action programs for securing satisfactory personnel policies and procedures for the redress of grievances.  In addition, it supervises and advises Building Representatives in the processing of grievances on the building level.  It is also responsible for the processing of grievances involving the Chief School Administrator and the arbitration process.
The Curriculum Committee chairs are members of the Curriculum Development Council.  They examine all proposals for educational change which are put forth by the membership and the district.  They also examine such proposals for the purpose of avoiding contractual difficulties, making educational suggestions and assisting the membership in the development of programs.
The Political Action Committee is responsible to organize and oversee the collection of Vote/Cope contributions, support for NYSUT endorsed candidates, election of members to our local School Board, the passage of school budgets, and serve as liaisons with local community groups.  Other responsibilities include the development of political awareness and support of political action by TVTA membership and lobbying efforts in Albany and Washington concerning education-related legislation.
The Bylaw Revision Committee reviews proposed amendments to the bylaws, makes recommendations on the proposed amendments to the Board of Directors, and presents the proposed changes, in writing, to the membership.
The Board of Directors meets monthly to hear reports from committees and to address the needs and concerns of the organization.
